Building the next generation of tech talent

We have put together a 3 part blog series sharing insights on Blue Hat Internships.

Over many years, we have proudly welcomed bright and enthusiastic students from both schools and universities to spend upto 8 weeks with us in the summer. Our goal has always been to provide meaningful, hands-on experience that helps the next generation of technologists.

This year, we will be focused on welcoming university students who are in their penultimate or final year of study.

Tips from the team on applying for an internship

The insights in this blog series are authored by our Principal Software Engineer and the Marketing Team. So, let’s kick off with Part 1.

What interns can expect from life at Blue Hat

At Blue Hat, we are an agile team of developers, supported by a strong nearshore delivery capability, and a group of Partners who are experts in their respective domains.  We operate in fast-moving, complex environments. But underneath the delivery, models, and technology is a culture built around curiosity, collaboration, and support.

Blue Hat provides an environment where you can apply your knowledge in the business environment. With application, context comes quickly. Interns don’t just receive tasks. They join client conversations, see how technical work moves through a business, and understand why decisions matter. That awareness transforms technical exercises into meaningful contributions.

“Work felt significant - getting to work on a real project for a client felt very rewarding.” Andy, Blue Hat Intern 2025.

The culture that enables innovation

Innovation doesn’t happen by accident. It grows in an environment where people feel confident asking questions, exploring ideas, and contributing from day one. Some interns describe the early days as intense but also notice how quickly things start making sense when surrounded by supportive experts who are happy to guide and explain. "We were brought up to speed in a way that we could offer new ideas."  Ben, Blue Hat intern 2025.

Questions aren’t treated as interruptions, they’re part of the learning rhythm. Feedback flows naturally: on modelling choices, code structure, architectural reasoning, or even communication style. It builds an environment where interns can feel comfortable approaching anyone in the business.

Teamwork is the heart of it. Interns consistently cite collaboration as one of the most rewarding parts of the experience. Daily Standups create alignment. Sprint planning gives clarity and purpose. Project meetings encourage shared responsibility. Technology, subject matter expertise, and project experience become strengths, enabling richer, more thoughtful problem-solving.

"The most valuable thing was the teamwork aspect,  working as part of a group on a project rather than individual goals." Ben, Blue Hat Intern 2025.

Community building confidence and connection

Learning at Blue Hat doesn’t just come from projects. It comes from the community around them. Interns are immersed in the full rhythm of team life: the discussions, the decisions, and the celebrations. The company organises activity based events designed to help people connect as people, not just colleagues. There are after-work meetups but we also enjoy competitive team challenges like go-karting, indoor golf, or even croquet. We like to come together annually as an extended Blue Hat community including partners, children, and families. These social events aren’t just fun extras. These experiences strengthen trust, accelerate collaboration, and keep our workplace human, connected, and fun.

For interns the result is simple:
You grow quickly, you feel supported, and you’re part of a community that celebrates your success.

For clients, the impact is even clearer:
Teams that ask smarter questions, onboard quickly, understand your business deeply, and deliver value fast.

At its core, the culture of Blue Hat can be distilled into one message for anyone joining:

Ask questions. Be curious. You’ll be supported every step of the way
